Having a hard time getting started?

Writing a cover letter isn't easy - especially if you've never done it before. Luckily, there is a solution to your many problems! Companies have put together cover letter packages that will assist you with writing a winning cover letter. The easiest way to find these packages is to search for a term like cover letter templates on one of the search engines.

Make sure that the package you download includes sample cover letters to help you get started. These samples will be of the greatest benefit for writing your cover letter. Also, it is helpful if the package also includes sample resumes. To get started you shouldn't spend more than $20 or so on a cover letter package.

Good luck!

Dear Mr. Smith:

Your recent advertisement in the Los Angeles County Business Journal indicates that you are in need of an experienced Project Manager. My 11 years of successful project management appears to match your need.

Throughout my career I have been known as a quick learner, self-starter, and a dedicated worker. I have demonstrated my ability to handle a variety of tasks effectively and deliver on deadlines. Although I work well independently, I am equally comfortable working as part of a team.

I am convinced that I can make an immediate contribution toward the growth of Smith Management and would hope that we may explore this opportunity further. Please contact me, at your convenience, to further discuss my background.

Respectfully Submitted,

Cover Letter Tip #1 - Personalize Your Cover Letter

Every time you apply for a job, you should write a new cover letter. You can use the skeleton of another cover letter, but don't just change the name and address and send it out.

After you have applied for a position, make a copy of the cover letter and resume you sent and staple them to the job description. That way you will be able to keep track of the positions you applied for and what you sent out with your application.
